Claudia Cobizev, one of the most prominent sculptors in the history of Moldovan art, was born on March 20, 1905, in Chișinău and studied at the local School of Arts under the guidance of Alexandru Plămădeală (1926-1931), continuing her training at the Royal Academy of Arts in Brussels (1931-1934) and at the Academy of Arts in Bucharest (1934-1936), in the workshops of masters Rousseau The artist collaborated closely with cultural institutions in the Republic of Moldova, being a member of the Union of Plastic Artists and a sculpture teacher at the School of Plastic Arts in Chisinau during the periods 1940-1941 and 1945-1952. She carried out state commissions for the pavilions of the Exhibition of Achievements of the National Economy (EREN) of Moldova in Moscow (1951-1952) and had solo exhibitions in Chisinau (1975, 1995), alongside regular group exhibitions between 1964-1985. Her work, marked by Romanian national traditions, European influences, and socialist realism, includes portraits, thematic compositions, and decorative reliefs in wood, plaster, bronze, copper, and aluminum, many preserved at the National Museum of Arts of Moldova, reflecting the picturesque rural life and stylistic evolution from naturalism to expressive stylization. For her artistic merits, Claudia Cobizev received the titles of Honored Figure of Arts of the MSSR (1960) and People's Artist of the MSSR (1965), the State Prize of the MSSR (1968), the Order "Badge of Honor" (1947), and the Order "Red Banner of Labor" (1957). Although information about her personal life remains limited in public sources, her dedication to art, sketches from Moldovan villages, and strong feminine themes illustrate an existence devoted to capturing the essence of the Moldovan people. She passed away on April 28, 1995, in Chisinau, leaving behind a prolific legacy that combines local authenticity with European excellence.
