About

Mila Nox, born Mila Yurienko in Chisinau on June 4, 1991, is a contemporary Russian fantasy fiction writer who built her literary career in the Russian Federation. At the age of ten, she emigrated with her parents from the Republic of Moldova to the city of Krasnodar, where she has lived and worked ever since. Her artistic inclinations manifested from childhood – she learned to read at three and a half years old, and at seven, she wrote her first book with her own illustrations. The decisive literary influences were the works of Tolkien, especially "The Lord of the Rings" and "The Hobbit," which she read and reread with passion, thus shaping her vision of fantasy fiction. Her literary career began with her participation in the "New Book for Children" competition organized by Rosmen publishing house in 2012, where she initially secured a shortlist position with a short text. Major success came in 2016 when her debut novel, "Macabr," won the Grand Prize of the competition in the "Fantasy World" category. This victory marked a turning point in her career and established her as an important voice in young adult fantasy literature. She chose the pseudonym Mila Nox – the Latin word "nox" means "night" – reflecting the nocturnal and melancholic atmosphere of her creations, which often unfold during the night and are inspired by Transylvanian and Moldavian folklore. After winning the competition, Rosmën Publishing House published his complete trilogy "Macabr": "Game in Twilight" (2017), "Journey to Midnight" (2017), and "War at Dawn" (2018), and later the "Midnight" series with the novel "Nocturne" (2019). Nox combines medieval atmosphere, mythology, and legend in his writings with musical influences from the neofolk and doom-metal genres. In addition to writing fantasy fiction, he worked as an English teacher in language centers, maintaining a balance between his teaching and literary careers. His works have generated a vibrant community of readers, especially teenagers, who have organized into fan clubs and actively interacted with the author through social media, which has strengthened the cultural impact of his creations in contemporary Russian youth literature.
