Elena Strujuc was the head of the pig farm of the "50 Years of October" collective farm in the Orhei district, Moldavian SSR. She was born on March 20, 1942, in the village of Isacova, Orhei district. She began her professional career as a milkmaid at the "Patria" collective farm in the Orhei district. In 1960, she was promoted to head of the dairy farm. Between 1965 and 1966, she led a brigade for raising young cattle. In December 1966, the administration of the "50 Years of October" collective farm entrusted her with the management of a pig farm that had poor results. The new head proved to be a capable organizer. Within a few years, the team she led became a frontrunner, being the first to adopt the five-day work week and implement advanced methods. The farm achieved remarkable performance, exceeding production plans and reducing costs by using its own feed (grown on the collective farm's land). Under her leadership, the farm installed a water heating system in the piglet shelters, almost completely reducing young piglet mortality. By Decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR of April 8, 1971, for outstanding achievements in the development of agricultural production and the fulfillment of the five-year plan, Elena Strujuc was awarded the title of Hero of Socialist Labor, along with the Order of Lenin and the gold medal "Hammer and Sickle." Elena Strujuc paid great attention to the living conditions of the employees, transforming the farm into a modern space with recreation areas and educational facilities (she initiated the opening of evening classes for young female workers). From 1973, she worked in various administrative positions in the animal husbandry sector of the Orhei district (inter-collective farm associations, district council). She was an active public figure: • Deputy to the Supreme Soviet of the Moldavian SSR (7th–9th convocations). • Vice-Chairwoman of the Supreme Soviet of the Moldavian SSR. • Delegate to the 25th Congress of the CPSU (1976). • Member of district party committees and other political organizations. She was awarded: • Two Orders of Lenin (1966, 1971). • Medals and other honorary distinctions, including the Diploma of Honor of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the Moldavian SSR.
