About

Tatiana Molcean is an internationally renowned Moldovan diplomat, born on September 25, 1982, who has dedicated two decades to public service and international cooperation. Since September 2023, she has held the position of Executive Secretary of the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE), having been appointed by UN Secretary-General António Guterres. This position came as a recognition of her vast diplomatic experience and in-depth knowledge of UNECE member states. Throughout her career, Molcean has held numerous positions of responsibility within the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and European Integration of the Republic of Moldova. Between 2004 and 2008, she headed the Division for Economic Cooperation and Sectoral Coordination, and subsequently served as Chargé d'Affaires at the Embassy of the Republic of Moldova in Sweden from 2008 to 2011. From 2017 to 2020, she held the position of State Secretary and Deputy Minister for Multilateral and Bilateral Cooperation. Prior to her appointment at UNECE, Molcean served as Permanent Representative of the Republic of Moldova to the United Nations Office, the World Trade Organization, and other international organizations in Geneva from 2020 to 2023, a position from which she was recalled at the end of August 2023. Molcean has a solid legal background, holding a Bachelor's degree in Law and International Law from the Moldova State University and a Master's degree in Law from the Faculty of International Law. She further honed her professional training through the Multilateral Diplomacy program at the Graduate Institute of International and Development Studies in Geneva, Switzerland. Fluency in four languages – Romanian, English, Russian, and French – allows her to communicate effectively in her international context. Alongside her diplomatic activities, Tatiana Molcean has distinguished herself by promoting Moldovan cultural heritage, organizing an exhibition of traditional hand-woven carpets at the Palais des Nations in Geneva.
