About

Olga Lucovnicova, a documentary filmmaker from the Republic of Moldova born in 1991, gained international recognition for her film "My Uncle Tudor" (2020), which won the Golden Bear at the A graduate of the Academy of Music, Theatre and Fine Arts in Chișinău, where she studied cinematography for six years, Olga obtained an Erasmus Mundus scholarship for the Master's in Documentary Directing at the DocNomads program, a partnership between universities in Portugal, Hungary, and Belgium, which she completed magna cum laude. She currently lives in Belgium, where she is a PhD candidate in Media Studies at KU Leuven, with a project funded by the Research Foundation Flanders (FWO) on post-memory and transgenerational trauma in post-Soviet society. She is a member of the European Film Academy, the Union of Filmmakers of Moldova, and the deAuteurs collective in Flanders, serving as a jury member at international festivals and giving lectures on first-person film at European universities. Although detailed information about her personal life remains limited in public sources, Olga's work is deeply rooted in family experiences and Soviet heritage, reflected in films that reveal family secrets and historical traumas, such as those from World War II. Her career demonstrates a remarkable transition from accounting to photography and cinema, consolidating a hybrid profile of an artist and researcher in the field of audiovisual arts, with publications in Moldovan and international academic journals on poetic film and auto-ethnography.
