About

Her research focuses on the interaction between migration, human trafficking, and the media in Eastern Europe. It is based on empirical data collected from public surveys and interviews with a wide range of groups affected by this issue in Moldova: the general public, former and current migrants, victims of human trafficking, imprisoned traffickers and smugglers, Moldovan state officials, social workers, UN officials, EU officials, and other experts in combating human trafficking in Europe. In her recent works on Moldova, she explores why poorer citizens aspire less to migrate, while wealthier individuals are more willing to move abroad. Ludmila has held academic positions at Harvard University, Georgetown University, the University of Vienna, and the Diplomatic Academy of Vienna. She has gained practical experience in multilateral diplomacy and international security through positions held at Women in International Security – Austria, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Moldova, the Millennium Challenge Corporation, the Citizens' Network for Foreign Affairs, and the Association for Diplomatic Studies and Training.
