Janeta Hanganu is a remarkable lawyer from the Republic of Moldova, specializing in human rights, with an impressive international career of over 23 years. A law graduate, she began in her home country as a translator and legal assistant at UNDP Moldova, then coordinated judicial reform projects at the Soros Foundation and managed the Center for Legal Studies and Policies. Between 2007 and 2012, she was managing partner at her law firm "Hanganu, Tănase & Partners" in Chisinau, representing clients in famous cases before the European Court of Human Rights (ECtHR), such as Ilașcu, Tănase, or Megadat, and was recognized in Best Lawyers for litigation, human rights, and corporate law. Since moving to France, Janeta Hanganu has been predominantly active at the Council of Europe in Strasbourg, where she has held the position of Senior Lawyer in the ECHR Registry since 2021, drafting proposals for judicial solutions and comparative research in complex cases concerning the European Convention on Human Rights. Previously, she served as a Legal Advisor and Program Officer for the Special Representative on Migration and Refugees, contributing to the Action Plan for the protection of refugee and migrant children, participating in fact-finding missions, and representing the organization at international conferences. She has collaborated with institutions such as EU/TACIS, ABA/CEELI, Winrock International, and the Independent Journalism Center, providing expertise in judicial reforms, women's rights, and freedom of expression. She taught media law and ECHR jurisprudence at the Advanced School of Journalism and the Moldovan Bar, promoting high standards in justice.
