Ala Menșicov, born on February 9, 1961, in the village of Chetriș, Fălești district, is a remarkable theater and film actress from the Republic of Moldova, entirely dedicated to her profession since childhood. She studied for two years at the Institute of Arts in Chișinău, then graduated from the prestigious "Boris Shchukin" Higher Theater School in Moscow in 1985, where she had eminent professors such as A. Borisov and Alla Kazanskaya. Returning to her country, she debuted at the "Luceafărul" Youth Theater (1985-1991), playing memorable roles, and in 1990 she was part of the group of actors led by Petru Vutcărău who founded the "Eugene Ionesco" Theater, initially as a traveling troupe in Romania, returning to Chișinău in 1991. At the "Eugene Ionesco" National Theatre, where she is a leading actress, Menshicov has created numerous acclaimed roles, such as Queen Margaret in Ionesco's "The King Dies," characters in "Picasso's Women. Jacqueline," Chekhov's "The Seagull," or Matei Vișniec's "Chekhov's Machine," earning the appreciation of audiences and critics. Her career includes leadership positions, such as Artistic Director of the theatre (2018-2020) and Senior Lecturer at the Academy of Music, Theatre, and Fine Arts (2013-2017), as well as coordinating theatre courses for children, teenagers, and adults since 2011. She has been awarded honorary titles such as People's Artist (2017) and Master of Arts (2009), plus international awards, including the Grand Prize at the GALA STAR Festival in Bacău (2006) and at BITEI '94. Ala Menșicov's personal life is closely linked to theater and her family, being married to director Petru Vutcărău, with whom she has built not only a union of over 30 years but also the "Eugene Ionesco" Theater, traveling the world stage together. The two have two children, Ștefania and Laurențiu – the latter a graduate of the Academy of Theater – and the actress emphasizes that the boundaries between theater and family often blur during their shared holidays. Maintaining her passion for the stage through physical exercise, reading, and meditation, Ala Menșicov continues to inspire new generations through her courses, dreaming of staging performances with amateurs and preparing for international tours, such as the one in Japan.
