Maria Zlatov was a renowned soprano, born in 1884 in Comrat, in southern Moldova, who distinguished herself through solid musical training and a remarkable artistic career. She attended the Russian Musical College of the Musical Society, then passed the entrance exams for the Imperial Conservatory, where she studied singing and stagecraft. She perfected her skills with Anna Jerebtsova-Andreeva in solo singing and with Nicolai Klimov in stage art, and on the stage of the Mariinsky Opera, she performed important roles such as Gilda in "Rigoletto," Nedda in "Pagliacci," and Rosina in "The Barber of Seville." After years of artistic affirmation, Maria Zlatov returned to Chișinău around 1920 and became an important figure in the local musical life. In 1928, she was elected a member of the Chișinău Musical Association, and between 1928 and 1935, she taught singing at the "Unirea" Musical Conservatory, contributing to the training of a new generation of artists; among her students was Maria Cebotari. Her pedagogical activity continued at the City Conservatory between 1936 and 1940, and then at the Chișinău State Conservatory in the years 1944–1946, which demonstrates her constant role in strengthening musical education in the Romanian space. There is little public information about her personal life, but it is known that she lived a significant part of her life in the Romanian space, especially in Chisinau, where she carried out her teaching and artistic activities. Maria Zlatov later moved to Romania, where she passed away in 1966. Her legacy remains linked to the training of opera voices in Bessarabia and to the influence she had on prominent artists, during a period when Romanian musical culture was consolidating its professional and educational benchmarks.
