About

Abigail Rencheli, born on April 5, 2002, in the Republic of Moldova, is a remarkable tennis player who initially represented her home country until October 2022, when she began competing under the flag of the United States of America. Her collegiate career at North Carolina State University (NC State Wolfpack) was marked by exceptional performances, including the ITA All-American singles title in 2022, when she reached the quarterfinals of the NCAA Singles Championships, becoming the second player in the program's history with this achievement. She secured 30 singles wins in the 2021-22 season, ranking 34th nationally in singles and 22nd in doubles, and defeated top opponents such as reigning NCAA champion Emma Navarro. On the ITF Women's Circuit professional circuit, Rencheli won 11 doubles titles, reaching a WTA ranking peak of 184 in October 2025, and in 2026 she won the W100 Cary Tennis Classic tournament alongside Ayana Akli. She collaborated with partners such as Alana Smith, with whom she triumphed at her first $60,000 tournament in Saskatoon (2023), Amelia Rajecki, Tara Moore, and others, participating in competitions in the USA, Canada, Mexico, Turkey, and Tunisia. She was also called up to the Moldovan national team for the Billie Jean King Cup, highlighting her ties to her Moldovan origins, and set solid records at NC State, such as 26-19 in singles in the 2023-24 senior season, contributing to major victories like the one against UNC. On a personal level, Rencheli grew up in Sarasota, Florida, where she was recruited as a five-star prospect with a Universal Tennis Rating of 11, playing right-handed on her preferred hard courts. She has an older sister, Sisilia, who played tennis at Quinnipiac University, likely influencing her athletic path. Although based in the USA, she contributes to the promotion of Moldovan women's tennis through her international performances and maintaining representation in team competitions.
