About
Svetlana Lisagor Vergis is a remarkable Moldovan activist based in Greece, recognized for her energetic leadership of the Moldovan-Hellenic Friendship Union Alexandros Ipsilantis. As president of this organization, she promotes the integration of Moldovan migrants into Greek society, addressing pressing issues such as access to services, workers' rights, and administrative challenges. Her achievements include organizing cultural events that keep Moldovan traditions alive, strengthening ties between the two nations, and providing support to the diaspora community, according to interviews given to Radio Chișinău. Through the Alexandros Ipsilantis Union, Svetlana collaborates closely with Greek and European institutions to support Moldovan migrants, distinguishing herself during crises such as the major fires in the Attica region in 2018. She mobilized the community to collect humanitarian aid, blood donations, and volunteer support, even offering accommodation to affected families and emphasizing solidarity with the Greek people. These efforts were publicized by Radio Free Europe, where she stated: "We are trying to mobilize, in the name of the entire community originating from the Republic of Moldova, to offer our small support as well." In her personal life, Svetlana has been married for over 13 years to Demosthenis Vergis, former president of the Ecologist Party of Greece, whom she unswervingly supports in the face of legal challenges, stating in the Greek press: "He is my man."
