Vera Dorul (August 27, 1929 – January 14, 2017) was a prominent figure in Soviet agriculture in the Moldavian Soviet Socialist Republic (MSSR), recognized for her exceptional achievements in tobacco cultivation. Biography Born in Dubăsari, within the Moldavian SSR, Vera Dorul dedicated her professional life to the agricultural sector. Starting in 1947, she worked as a team leader (zvenievaia) in the tobacco cultivation brigade of the "13 Years Since October" collective farm in the Dubăsari district. Her career reached a peak in 1948 when the team she led achieved a remarkable harvest of "Trapezond" variety tobacco, producing 22.3 quintals per hectare over an area of 3 hectares. This achievement was considered exceptional for its time, significantly contributing to the fulfillment of state quotas imposed on the collective farm. Distinctions and Recognition Due to her results, on March 9, 1949, by Decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR, Vera Petrovna Dorul was awarded the title of Hero of Socialist Labor. This was a special honor, as she was among the first eight workers in the MSSR to receive this title that year. Concurrently, she was awarded: The Order of "Lenin". The gold medal "Hammer and Sickle". Subsequent activity and legacy After achieving these performances, Vera Dorul continued to work at the collective farm in Dubăsari until her retirement. She lived in her hometown, Dubăsari, until her passing in 2017, at the age of 87. In May 2017, to honor her contribution to the development of regional agriculture, local authorities in Dubăsari unveiled a commemorative plaque on the "Honor Board of Heroes of Socialist Labor," which includes the portrait of Vera Petrovna Dorul. This professional trajectory highlights the historical importance of agricultural efficiency in the economy of the Moldavian SSR and the role that specialized teams, such as the one led by Dorul, played in the development of production value during that period.
