Daniela Cociu, born on May 4, 2000, in the village of Chircăiești, Căușeni district, is one of the most remarkable athletes in the Republic of Moldova, specializing in sprint and marathon canoeing. Inspired by her grandmother to pursue this sport, she has represented Moldova at two Olympic Games editions, becoming, alongside Maria Olărașu, the first woman from the country to compete in the sprint canoeing event at Tokyo 2020, where she achieved 24th place in C1 200 m and 7th place in C2 500 m. At Paris 2024, she reached the quarterfinals in C1 200 m and again took 7th place in C2 500 m, confirming her status as a top athlete. Her impressive record includes multiple medals at European and World competitions: gold at the U23 European Championships in C2 500 m in 2021, 2022, and 2023, silver at the U23 World Championships in 2023, silver at the World Cup in 2020 and 2024, as well as silver at the 2024 Sprint Canoe World Championships in Samarkand in C2 200 m. She collaborates with the Kayak-Canoe Federation of the Republic of Moldova, under the guidance of coach Viktor Reneiski, and has participated in major events such as the 2023 European Games (4th place in C2 500 m) and Olympic qualifiers, earning silver at the Junior European Championships in 2018 and bronze at the Junior World Championships in the same year. With a height of 172 cm and a weight of 64 kg, Daniela Cociu represents a symbol of determination and courage in Moldovan sports, stating that #TEAMMOLDOVA means trust, fight, and courage to her. Although detailed information about her personal life or family remains limited in public sources, her contributions have brought international recognition to the Republic of Moldova, being welcomed as a national hero after important medals, such as the one from the Senior European Championships.
