Angela Ceban, a remarkable soprano from the village of Cotiujenii Mari, Șoldănești district, Republic of Moldova, discovered her passion for vocal music and theater at a young age. She began her musical studies at the village school, choosing the violin, an instrument that cultivated essential technical discipline. Her family's financial situation did not allow her to continue in Chișinău, so at 19, she moved to Iași, where she studied classical singing at the University of Arts, although she had initially intended to study folk music or jazz. In her final year of university, she passed the audition for the Iași Philharmonic choir, where she sang as a choral soloist for several years, consolidating her vocal technique. The training period was completed in Belgium, where she obtained her Master's degree in bel canto at the Royal Conservatorium in Brussels, under the guidance of Professor Dina Grossberger and participating in lied masterclasses with Inge Spinette. She attended prestigious masterclasses, such as that of Udo Reinemann, collaborating with artists like Christianne Stotijn and Wolfgang Holzmair. Her international career includes recitals and concerts in Belgium, Portugal, Germany, Hungary, Romania, and Turkey, alongside pianist Sara Vujadinovic. Her professional success culminated in winning auditions at the most prestigious Belgian opera houses: La Monnaie in Brussels – designated Best Opera House of the Year 2024 – and Opera Ballet Vlaanderen in Antwerp and Ghent, where she is the only Moldovan in the choirs, participating in productions such as Verdi's "Nabucco". Angela Ceban's personal life is marked by family support: her father, Alexei Ceban, played in the village brass band, and her mother, Lucia, noticed her daughter's talent as she hummed in multiple languages before she could speak well. Her parents traveled from Moldova to Antwerp to see her on stage. Her persistence, shaped by a journey without financial guarantees or connections, makes her an example for young artists, emphasizing the importance of discipline and curiosity. Although she shines on European stages, Angela Ceban has not yet performed on a Moldovan stage, leaving open the prospect of a return.
