About
Galina Bulavca was born on August 11, 1953, in the village of Chipeșca, Șoldănești district, Moldavian SSR, into a modest family. She began her professional career in 1970 as a worker at a construction materials factory in Pervomaisk, Mykolaiv region, and later at a food processing plant in Dnipropetrovsk. She studied chemistry at Dnipropetrovsk State University, graduating in 1977, subsequently working in the department of inorganic chemistry. In 1981, she entered local public administration, advancing from head of chancellery to head of the executive management service of the Dnipropetrovsk City Council. Her achievements in administration are remarkable: between 1999 and 2002, she served as deputy governor and chief of staff of the Dnipropetrovsk Regional Administration, and in 2002, she became the first woman in Ukraine to serve as president of the Dnipropetrovsk Regional Council, a position she held until 2004, later serving as deputy until 2006. A member of the "Batkivshchyna" party, she headed the Main Directorate of the Pension Fund in the region (2008–2010), ran for mayor of Dnipropetrovsk in 2010, was a member of the City Council from 2010, and served as secretary and acting mayor in 2015. She was a regional deputy for several terms and a candidate for Parliament, receiving multiple distinctions such as the Order of Princess Olga in all three degrees, the "Woman of the Third Millennium" Award, and medals for public service. Galina Bulavca is the vice-president of the "People. Events. Time" Charity Fund, dedicated to preserving the history of the Dnipropetrovsk region. Originating from Soviet Moldova, she represents an example of a female leader in Ukrainian administration, shaped by the post-Soviet transition. In her personal life, she devotedly cares for her 88-year-old mother and is proud of her son Viktor, deputy head of the sports department of the Regional Administration, and her granddaughter Veronica, reflecting traditional Moldovan family values adapted to the Ukrainian context.
