Buga Vera

Vera Buga (February 18, 1935, Nikolaev, Ukraine – December 31, 2019, Chisinau) was a worker and social activist from the Republic of Moldova, known for her work in production and her involvement in the public life of the capital. She was orphaned during World War II, raised by her grandmother along with her two sisters, and after graduating from ten grades of school, she started working early, following a rising professional path in the industrial sector. She first worked in agriculture, then at the Chisinau Meat Processing Plant, and from 1959, at the Chisinau Reinforced Concrete Products Plant, where she became one of the most appreciated workers of the enterprise. Within the Reinforced Concrete Articles and Industrial Constructions Plant in Chisinau, Vera Buga distinguished herself as a rebar worker, then as a team leader for rebar workers and electric welders, contributing to production efficiency, the implementation of advanced work methods, and the mechanization of difficult processes. She was appreciated for the consistent quality of her work, for the rational use of materials, and for her role as a mentor to young workers, training dozens of specialists within the collective where she worked. In recognition of her merits, in 1981 she was awarded the title of Hero of Socialist Labor, and later she was also elected to political and public leadership structures, including party organs and as a deputy in the Supreme Soviet of the Moldavian SSR and the USSR. After retiring, Vera Buga lived in Chisinau, where she remained a respected figure for the generations who knew her as a person of work and civic responsibility. She was awarded important titles and medals and also received the status of honorary citizen of Chisinau municipality, a recognition of her contribution to the community's development and to shaping a culture of work and social solidarity. Public information about her family life is scarce, but it is known that after marriage, she settled in Chisinau, where she built her entire career and where she passed away at the end of 2019.
