Liliana Bordeianou, MD, MPH, is a board-certified colorectal surgeon and a board-certified general surgeon. She is a Professor of Surgery at Harvard Medical School. At Massachusetts General Hospital, she leads the MGH Center for Colorectal Surgery and chairs the Center for Pelvic Floor Disorders. At Brigham and Women's Hospital, she is co-chair of the MGB Colorectal Surgery Collaborative. Dr. Bordeianou specializes in treating a wide range of colorectal conditions, including rectal cancer, colon cancer, Crohn's disease, ulcerative colitis, diverticulitis, rectal prolapse, and pelvic floor disorders. She is an expert in a wide range of techniques that allow for the selection of the best minimally invasive approaches needed to address specific surgical challenges, including: robotic and laparoscopic surgery, transanal endoscopic microsurgery (TEM), and transanal minimally invasive surgery (TAMIS). She is also an expert in performing open surgery for complex surgical procedures that require time, patience, precision, and experience. She has a special interest in sphincter-preserving techniques for low rectal cancer and for patients with inflammatory bowel disease. She is an international expert in the field of sphincter preservation, J-pouch ileal pouch reconstruction, rectal prolapse, and pelvic floor reconstruction. Dr. Bordeianou conducts research on topics related to patient quality of life, bowel function restoration, and dignity preservation after colorectal surgery. She has numerous publications in academic research journals on these important topics and lectures nationally and internationally. She is a champion for the quality of colorectal surgery and has received numerous awards, including the Nathanial Bowditch Award. Nationally, she is an associate examiner for the American Board of Colon and Rectal Surgery; an associate editor for Diseases of Colon and Rectum Journal, and a member of the Executive Council of the American Society of Colon and Rectal Surgeons.
