About

Silvia Berova (born April 17, 1945, in Izmail) is a distinguished Soviet and Moldovan theater and film actress, and a pedagogue, honored with the title of "Master of Arts" of the Republic of Moldova (2011). Coming from a family with musical roots, her father being the musicologist Leonid Savvici Berov, Silvia graduated from the Chișinău Conservatory (specializing in music theory) and the prestigious "Boris Shchukin" Theatre Institute in Moscow. Her film debut became legendary: in her first year of university, she was chosen by director Stanislav Rostotsky for the titular role in the film "Bela" (1966), based on Lermontov's novel. This performance solidified her image as a mysterious and romantic oriental beauty. Although she received tempting offers to stay in Moscow, Silvia chose to return to Chișinău with her husband, Grigore Butucel, dedicating herself to her family and theater. Between 1968 and 1992, she worked at the "A.P. Chekhov" Russian Drama Theater in Chișinău. Her filmography includes titles such as "Parni i devushka" (1968), "Idu na vulkan" (1977), and "Wedding in Bessarabia" (2010). Currently, she is a lecturer at the Academy of Music, Theater, and Fine Arts in Chișinău, where she teaches acting craft and stage speech, continuing to contribute to the training of new generations of artists.
