About

Victoria Stoiciu is a Romanian political scientist and politician, born in 1979 in the Moldavian SSR, USSR, considered one of the progressive voices of the left-wing movement in Romania. She graduated from the Faculty of Political Science and International Relations at SNSPA in Bucharest, later obtaining her PhD in political science at Babeș-Bolyai University in Cluj-Napoca. Her training also includes European experiences, such as the European School for Democracy at the Council of Europe and the status of a fellow at the Transatlantic Forum on Migration and Integration, organized by the German Marshall Fund, which strengthened her role in analyzing migration policies, human rights, and democratic development in the East-Central European region. Professionally, Victoria Stoiciu has accumulated over two decades of experience in research and civil society, working as a program coordinator at the Friedrich Ebert Foundation Romania, a national researcher for Eurofound, as well as in organizations such as the Academic Society of Romania and relevant international institutions (ETUI, Dublin City University, Eurofound). In this context, she has published numerous articles and studies on labor migration, economic crises, social dialogue, and industrial relations, collaborating with magazines and opinion platforms such as Dilema Veche, CriticAtac, Republica, România Liberă, or Libertatea. In 2024, she coordinated the volume "What Comes After Neoliberalism – For an Alternative Political Imaginary," consolidating her role as a progressive thinker in the Romanian political discourse. In 2023, she enters the institutional political arena as a state negotiator at the Chancellery of Prime Minister Marcel Ciolacu, responsible for relations with NGOs and vulnerable groups, and in 2024, she is elected senator for Vaslui on the Social Democratic Party lists, in the Parliament of Romania. In the Senate, she distinguished herself in the fields of social protection, human rights, and combating domestic violence, becoming one of the co-initiators of the femicide law promulgated in 2026. In April 2026, however, she resigns from the PSD in protest against the party's alliance with the AUR party, denouncing the collaboration as a "normalization of fascism" and withdrawing her support for any governmental configuration that would tolerate the far-right, consolidating her image as a politician firmly committed to democratic principles and the protection of vulnerable individuals in the Romanian public sphere.
