Larisa Timchina, born on December 7, 1966, in the city of Dubăsari in present-day Transnistria, Republic of Moldova, is a remarkable former biathlete who has marked the history of Moldovan sports through notable international performances. She began practicing biathlon in 1986, initially competing for the Central Sports Club of the Army (CSKA). Her most significant achievement was the bronze medal won at the 1997 Summer Biathlon World Championships in Krakow, in the sprint event, where she finished third behind Wolha Nasarawa and Irina Tananaiko. A year later, in 1998 in Osrblie, she finished fourth in the same event, narrowly missing another medal. In the 1998/1999 season, Timchina debuted in the Biathlon World Cup, participating in three stages – Oberhof (75th place), Ruhpolding (92nd place), and Antholz-Anterselva (63rd place) – proudly representing the Republic of Moldova on the international stage. These participations were her last major competitions, after which she concluded her sports career, leaving behind a valuable legacy for Moldovan biathlon, being the first athlete from the country to win a world medal in this discipline. Although she did not join the main Soviet team during the USSR period, Moldova's independence opened the doors for her to global competitions. Outside of sports, Larisa Timchina lives in Chisinau, where she works as an engineer with a higher education. She is married, speaks fluent Russian, and one of her passions is sewing. With a height of 156 cm and a weight of 52 kg, she has demonstrated exemplary endurance and precision in biathlon, contributing to the international promotion of female athletes from the Republic of Moldova.
