Sicilia Simonov Hero of Socialist Labor, Decree Date: 07.03.1960 Medal No.: 8380 Order of Lenin No.: 331282 Sicilia Simonova was a serger operator at Knitting Factory No. 2 in Chisinau, belonging to the Economic Council of the Moldavian SSR. She was born in 1928 in the city of Chisinau. At the age of 16, she began working at Knitting Factory No. 2 in Chisinau, recently established in August 1944. Initially, it was a workshop located in a basement room, where a few knitters worked on orders. After the end of the war, the first equipment arrived – so-called circular knitting machines, which were brought from Leningrad. In a short time, she mastered the specialty of seamstress and began her independent professional life. Carefully observing the work of experienced colleagues, she continuously improved her professional qualifications, began to achieve high labor productivity, and systematically exceeded production targets. She became a member of the CPSU. Diligence and perseverance helped Sicilia Simonov to quickly master, in addition to her main specialty, 11 other related specialties. As a skilled and leading worker, she was promoted to the position of brigadier of sewing section No. 2. Empathetic and attentive to people, she daily offered help in improving skills and generously shared her rich experience and knowledge. In a short time, the brigade led by Sicilia Simonov began to fulfill production quotas daily at 135–140%, maintaining excellent product quality. For high work performance and superior product quality, her brigade received the title of "Brigade of Excellent Quality". By Decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR of March 7, 1960, in honor of the 50th anniversary of International Women's Day, for outstanding achievements in work and particularly fruitful social activity, Sicilia Fyodorovna Simonova was awarded the title of Hero of Socialist Labor, with the presentation of the Order of Lenin and the gold medal "Hammer and Sickle". Later, Sicilia (married Egorova) continued to work at Knitting Factory No. 2 in Chisinau. Over time, the factory became part of the "Steaua Roșie" (Red Star) Knitting Association of the Ministry of Light Industry of the Moldavian SSR – the largest specialized knitting enterprise in the republic, which annually produced about 45 million pairs of socks and hosiery. In the 1980s, over five thousand workers were employed there. Currently, the production is closed. She was elected deputy to the Supreme Soviet of the Moldavian SSR for the IVth and Vth convocations (1955–1962), a member of the Chisinau City Soviet of Workers' Deputies, and a member of the Lenin District Committee of the Communist Party of Moldova (Chisinau). She was a delegate to the XXII Congress of the CPSU (1961), and to the Xth, XIth, and XIIth Congresses of the Communist Party of Moldova (1961, 1963, 1966). She was the chairwoman of the mentor council of sewing section No. 2 within the "Steaua Roșie" Knitting Association in Chisinau. She was awarded the Order of Lenin (07.03.1960), the Order of the Red Banner of Labour (04.03.1976), and medals.
