Maria Sagaidac was born on October 20, 1942, in the village of Cuhureștii de Sus, Florești district, within the Moldavian SSR, USSR. Her film debut took place in 1968, when she played the main role of the young Spanish woman Amparo in the film "This Moment," directed by Emil Loteanu, alongside Mihai Volontir. The role immediately brought her recognition, and her performance allowed her to become one of the legitimate figures of Moldavian cinema of that era, subsequently starring in over 15 productions, in a career spanning from the late 1960s to the late 1980s. In her filmography, Maria Sagaidac held important roles in films such as "Alone in the Face of Love" (1969), "Officer in Reserve" (1971), "Lăutarii" (1971), "Earth, Post-Restant" (1972), "All Evidence is Against Him" (1974), "Marc Twain Against" (1976), "Night Over Chile" (1976), "And a Day Will Come" (1979), "How to Become Famous" (1984), "Luceafărul" (1986), and "Knocking on the Door" (1989). A professional dedicated to both acting technique and dramatic-lyrical sensitivity, she collaborated with "Moldova-film," "M. Gorki," and "Mosfilm" studios, being noted for the naturalness of her performance and the emotional power of her interpretations. In 1997, she was awarded the honorary title "Master of Arts," and for her contribution to cinema, she received the "Best Actress of the Year" award at the Golden Antenna of TVM. Although primarily known as a film actress, Maria Sagaidac was concurrently a prominent figure in higher education, holding a doctorate in physico-mathematical sciences and the title of university professor. She conducted her scientific and pedagogical activities at the State University of Chișinău, where she taught in the Department of Numerical Analysis and Optimization, participating in union-level conferences and schools in the field of applied mathematics. Alongside her scientific work, she remained a symbolic figure in the cultural memory of the Republic of Moldova, valued both for her memorable screen roles and for the elegant way she combined artistic creativity with academic rigor.
