Plămădeală, Olga (b. 1896, Chișinău – d. March 10, 1990, Chișinău), publicist, architect, a central figure of Bessarabian artistic life in the interwar period. Wife of sculptor Alexandru Plămădeală. Biography and Education Born into the family of educator Iacob Suceveanu, a deputy in Sfatul Țării. She completed her high school studies in Chișinău and Odesa, later studying at the School of Fine Arts in Chișinău and at the Polytechnic Institute in Bucharest (Architecture department). She was Bessarabia's prima ballerina, combining artistic activity with the rigor of technical studies. Professional and Cultural Activity In 1923, she was elected Secretary-General of the Bessarabian Society of Fine Arts, a position from which she coordinated the organization of ten editions of the annual Official Salons. She was an active promoter of the institutionalization of arts in the region, being among the main organizers of the Chișinău Municipality Art Gallery (inaugurated in 1939), whose art collection formed the nucleus of the future National Museum of Fine Arts of the MSSR. In parallel with her administrative work, she carried out intensive journalistic activities. In the pages of the magazine Viața Basarabiei, she consistently wrote the column "Plastic Chronicle," documenting major artistic events, analyses of exhibitions by young Bessarabian artists, and tributes to masters of fine arts (e.g., Nicolae Grigorescu). Post-war and memorialistic activity After taking refuge in Romania in 1944 and subsequently returning to Chișinău, she dedicated herself to researching and preserving the work of sculptor Alexandru Plămădeală. She worked as an editor and translator, overseeing the reference works: Александр Пламадяла. Жизнь и творчество (Chișinău, 1965). Alexandru Plămădeală (in collaboration with Sofia Bobernagă, Chișinău, 1981). Evaluation of the legacy The last years of her life were marked by material precariousness, being cared for in a nursing home in Chișinău. Her fragmented memoirs and the vulnerability of old age made her the target of cultural scamming, through which original graphic works by sculptor Alexandru Plămădeală were stolen and replaced with photographic replicas. Her contribution remains fundamental to understanding the mechanisms of Bessarabian cultural life in the first half of the 20th century.
