Ana Munteanu Everling, professionally known as Ana Everling, is a remarkable vocalist and storyteller from the Republic of Moldova, who has been based in the United States of America since 2010. Her musical career began on the streets of Chicago, where she initially performed as a street artist, rapidly evolving to prestigious stages such as Lincoln Center in New York, Chicago Symphony Center, and international festivals like Folk Alliance International and SXSW. She fuses Bessarabian Romanian folklore with modern improvisation, jazz, electronic, and classical music, releasing the vinyl "Pui de Dor" in 2024, which includes repertoire recovered from censored composers, and being featured on Putumayo World Music compilations. The artist actively advocates for the preservation of the **Doina** genre, a free and deeply emotional form in danger of disappearing, transforming it into a contemporary vehicle for cultural resilience through projects like the Ana Everling Quartet and Taraf de Chicago. She has collaborated with renowned musicians such as Kenny Reichert, Hunter Diamond, Patrick Donley, and members of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, participating in major events like the Chicago World Music Festival and concerts at Merkin Hall for Romania's National Day. For her exceptional contributions to promoting Moldovan heritage abroad, she was honored with the title of Meritorious Artist by the President of the Republic of Moldova in 2023. Ana comes from a family of actors, being exposed to theater, music, and performance from a young age. She studied piano, voice, choral music, and music theory at the Iulia Hașdeu High School in Chișinău, followed by jazz at the Academy of Music, Theater, and Fine Arts. Having emigrated to the USA, she combines music with visual art, creating self-portraits sold as art posters, and organizes monthly solo sessions like those at Nighthawk. Her live performances, captured in recordings from Constellation Chicago or Schubas, highlight a magnetic stage presence and a crystalline voice that transcends cultural barriers.
