The tenth edition of the beauty contest took place on Saturday in the capital. This year, Maria Matei (height 178 cm, bust 92 cm, waist 64 cm, hips 90 cm) was named the most beautiful woman in Moscow 2004. The 18-year-old graduate of a linguistics school was crowned "Miss Moscow" by a jury consisting of Iosif Kobzon, Pavel Bure, "Krasa Rossii-2003" Svetlana Goreva, and the contest director, Tatyana Andreeva. In addition to the crown, Maria Matei received a diamond ring and 25 thousand dollars. Iosif Kobzon, who chaired the jury, helped Maria win. The jury's votes were split equally between the brunette Tatyana Biryukova, a third-year student at the Aviation Institute, and Maria. Tatiana Biryukova had the strongest support group: the entire right flank of the hall supported her, chanting as if at a football match. This prevented her from winning. Kobzon said on the sidelines that he was "irritated by these noisy fans and people who supply themselves with support groups. It's not a fair fight!", the singer is quoted as saying, according to Komsomolskaya Pravda. The president's opinion likely influenced the rest of the jury, and they decided in favor of the candidate who did not have such support - Maria Matei.
