Olga Kiun, a remarkable pianist raised in the Republic of Moldova, began her piano studies at the age of 6 with her mother and grandmother, both professors at the Chișinău Conservatory. She graduated with honors from the Tchaikovsky Conservatory in Moscow under the guidance of the great Lev Oborin, winning 5th prize at the George Enescu International Competition in Romania, and later her doctorate at the Saint Petersburg Conservatory with Pavel Serebriakov. Her solo career includes recitals, concerts with orchestras, and recordings for radio and TV in the former USSR, as well as tours in Eastern Europe, South America, and, since 1991, in Brazil, where she collaborated with prestigious orchestras such as the Paraná Symphony Orchestra, São Paulo, and Curitiba. Since her move to Curitiba in 1993, Olga Kiun has become an emblematic figure of Brazilian classical music, teaching at the School of Music and Fine Arts of Paraná (EMBAP), where she elevated piano standards through the Russian school of performance. She has trained generations of award-winning pianists in over 50 national and international competitions, including Pablo Rossi, Luiz Guilherme Pozzi, and Davi Sartori; she has served as a competition juror, artistic director of the first Santa Catarina International Piano Competition, and organizer of the Olga Kiun Festival, which included complete cycles of Beethoven's piano concertos. She has recorded CDs with Russian and Brazilian works, performing composers such as Tchaikovsky, Rachmaninoff, Chopin, and Guarnieri, and has performed concerts with renowned conductors like Alceo Bocchino and Roberto Minczuk. Continuing the family tradition of music – a third generation of pianists, followed by her daughters and grandchildren – Olga Kiun settled in Brazil after the death of her husband and the collapse of the USSR, finding a new home in Curitiba where she still teaches approximately 10 students and practices Pilates daily for vitality. At over 70 years old, she remains active in festivals such as the Anima Musicale Orchestra festival, dedicated to her influence, and maintains Russian culinary habits, like soup with ćevapi. Her inexhaustible energy comes from her passion for music, making Curitiba a South American piano hub.
