About
Daniela Hondiu, born on March 14, 1990, in the town of Mitoc, Republic of Moldova, has distinguished herself through exceptional performances in combat sports, especially in sambo and judo. She started with judo, winning multiple medals at the Romanian national championships, including silver in the U57 kg category and bronze in the U63 kg category, as well as at Balkan competitions where she won silver in 2010 and 2011. Her meteoric rise in sambo culminated with the title of European champion in 2015 in Zagreb, in the 56 kg category, becoming the first Romanian woman to be a continental champion in this discipline, alongside bronze medals at the World Sambo Championships in 2015 and 2017, and at the European Games in Baku. Registered with the Farul Constanța Sports Club, Daniela has represented Romania with distinction in major international competitions, including bronze medals at the World Championships in Casablanca (2015) and Narita (2014), as well as at the Sambo European Games in Minsk (2019). Her performances have contributed to the popularization of sambo in Romania, a sport she has practiced at a high level since 2012, after a solid career in judo. She participated in tournaments such as the SportAccord Games in Saint Petersburg, demonstrating ambition and adaptability against top opponents, such as Bulgaria's Kalina Stefanova. Arriving in Romania in the year 2000 with her family, Daniela adapted quickly and built an impressive career in Constanța, where she has lived for over 20 years. Sambo has offered her not only trophies but also self-confidence, stating that this tough sport, which combines elements of martial arts and wrestling, has shaped her into a strong and determined person. Although detailed information about her personal life is limited, her ambition to win European gold reflects a vibrant personality dedicated to athletic performance.
