Eva Gudumac, born on May 6, 1941, in Tătărăuca Veche commune, Soroca district, is an eminent pediatric surgeon, an academician of the Academy of Sciences of Moldova since 2007, and a doctor habilitatus in medical sciences. A graduate of the Soroca Medical School (1958-1960) and the Faculty of Pediatrics of the State Institute of Medicine in Chișinău (1960-1966), she dedicated her career to the Nicolae Testemițanu State University of Medicine and Pharmacy, where she has worked as a pediatric surgeon since 1966, becoming head of the Department of Pediatric Surgery, Anesthesiology, and Resuscitation in 1986. She has performed thousands of complex surgical interventions, specializing in acute destructive pneumonias, congenital malformations, septic conditions, and trauma in children, contributing to the development of national and international protocols in pediatric surgery. A close collaborator of academician Natalia Gheorghiu, Eva Gudumac led the Pediatric Surgery Clinic of the Republican Children's Hospital and is the coordinating director of the National Scientific-Practical Center for Pediatric Surgery "Natalia Gheorghiu". President of the Association of University Pediatric Surgeons of the Republic of Moldova since 1980, member of the "Nicolae Anestide" Society of Surgeons and of European and Romanian pediatric surgery associations, she was dean of the Faculty of Pediatrics (1986-1988), a member of the Parliament of the Republic of Moldova (2001-2009), and editor-in-chief of specialized journals. She published over 520 scientific articles, 10 monographs, guides and textbooks, invention patents, and supervised 11 doctoral theses and 30 doctoral dissertations in pediatric surgery, orthopedics, and anesthesiology. Married and mother of one child, Eva Gudumac comes from a family of hardworking yeomen from Tătărăuca Veche, with roots in the local tradition of education and priesthood, where her father, Mihail Oțel, a war veteran, instilled in her a love for books and work. Decorated with the Order of the Republic (1994), the Order "Bogdan the Founder" (2017), the medal "Merited Person" (2001), and the title of Doctor Honoris Causa from Ovidius University of Constanța (2015), she remains a symbol of excellence in Moldovan medical sciences, saving lives for over six decades with tireless dedication.
