About
Violeta Gorgos, a film director with an impressive career marked by 30 years of experience in making documentaries, cinematic essays, and experimental films, was born in the USSR, in the village of Fundurii Vechi in the Glodeni district, Republic of Moldova. She studied musicology, literature, and film directing, debuting in the post-Soviet transition period, when the Moldovan film industry was falling apart, forcing her to constantly reinvent herself through collaborations with television stations and independent production houses like OWH Studio. Her achievements include the feature film "Mario, Maria, Marinel" (2025), a drama about migration and the role of women in the family, filmed in her parents' home in Fundurii Vechi, which premiered in Chisinau and was selected for international festivals, as well as award-winning documentaries such as those in the "Expeditions of Memory" series, exploring the fates of Bessarabians deported to Siberia. For over 14 years, Violeta Gorgos has been primarily active in Romania, as an artistic director at TVR Iași, where she produces shows such as "Identitate Basarabia" – portrait interviews with successful Bessarabian personalities – and "CVarte" or "Racord," artistic essays on culture and events. She has collaborated with remarkable actors and artists such as Diana Decuseară, Valentina Naforniță, Leo Rudenco, and Radu Ghilaș, and her projects have been recognized at international festivals like Dakino, Anonimul, and Golden Praga. In 2024, she received the Excellence Award from the Association of Tourism Journalists and Writers, and her films, developed in specialized labs and pitches, reflect a profound vision of cultural and social identity. Having come to Romania with her two sons, where she worked at TV Chișinău, Violeta Gorgos integrated her family experience into her work, involving her relatives in productions – her brother as producer, her sons in technical and musical roles. Passionate about the stories of deportees in her family – both her great-grandparents suffered in Siberia – she emphasizes human sincerity and Bessarabian heritage, contributing to the cultural connection between the two banks of the Prut River through an authentic and courageous artistic approach.
