Nina Doni, born on May 9, 1936, in the commune of Olănești, Ștefan Vodă district, was an iconic theater and film actress from the Republic of Moldova, recognized for her sober and impressive performances. She graduated in 1960 from the "Boris Shchukin" Higher Theater School in Moscow, under the guidance of professors Anna Orociko and Iosif Tolcianov, and immediately after, she debuted on the stage of the "Luceafărul" Republican Theater in Chișinău, alongside the first troupe formed by colleagues such as Ion Ungureanu, Dumitru Fusu, and Vera Mereuță. Over six decades of career brought her memorable roles in plays such as "The Wedding Suit" (Aspazia), "Wildflowers" (Veronica), "The Tricks of Scapin" (Zerbinet), "The Marriage" (Arina Pantelimonovna and Fiocla), or "Blais" (Cabina), establishing her as a cornerstone of Moldovan theater. Besides theater, Nina Doni also distinguished herself in cinema, debuting in 1961 with the role of a worker in the film "Omul merge după soare" (Man Walks After the Sun), followed by appearances in productions such as "Ați primit o telegramă" (Have You Received a Telegram) (1983, Ana's mother), "Autobuz singuratic sub ploaie" (Lonely Bus in the Rain) (1986, Constanța Gheorghievna), "Cine arvonește, acela plătește" (He Who Deposits, Pays) (1989), and "Codrii" (The Forests) (1990-1991). Loyal to the "Luceafărul" Theater for over 60 years, she contributed to the training of generations of actors, being both a pedagogue, and received distinctions such as the title of Master of Arts (1993 or 1995), the Medal "Veteran of Labor" (1987), and the Order of Honor (2010), honors that reflect her impact on national culture. Nina Doni passed away on September 23, 2025, at the age of 89, leaving behind a legacy of dedication to the performing arts in the Republic of Moldova. Although details about her personal life or family remain little known to the public, her exemplary career illustrates her devotion to the national theater, in an era when Moldovan artists laid the foundations for a rich repertoire, influenced by classical and contemporary traditions, contributing to the country's cultural identity.
