Soprano. Soloist at the Romanian National Opera in Iași
About
Diana Bucur is an outstanding lyric soprano, principal soloist of the Romanian National Opera in Iași for over two decades, where she made her debut as a soloist in 1999, after six years in the institution's choir. Trained at the "Octav Băncilă" National College of Art in Iași, the "Ciprian Porumbescu" State Conservatory in Chișinău (graduated in 1993, class of Prof. Mihail Munteanu), and the "George Enescu" University of Arts in Iași (1998, class of Prof. Mioara Cortez), she has performed over 18 leading roles, from Violetta in "La Traviata" and Floria Tosca in Puccini's opera – one of her favorites – to Aida, Eugene Onegin, or roles in Verdi's "A Masked Ball". Her versatile voice, with an extended range from B below middle C to E in the third octave, has evolved towards the spinto register, allowing her to tackle demanding dramatic roles, and in 2026 she conquered the stage of the Roman Theatre in Benevento, Italy, also in "Tosca", under the legendary direction of Katia Ricciarelli. Her collaborations extend beyond the boundaries of local stages, including performances of works by contemporary composer Marius Herea, such as "Genesis", "Elegie" and excerpts from his opera, alongside the Ploiești Philharmonic Orchestra conducted by Ovidiu Bălan. Diana Bucur has participated in international festivals, including the J.S. Bach International Festival, and has given recitals that combine opera with chamber music, demonstrating a rigorous vocal technique and a passion for Romanticism, Verismo, and composers like Puccini or Mozart. She promotes music education, emphasizing the role of opera in accessing emotional depth, and has published a collection of verse translations of French and German lieder with Editura Muzicală, thus completing her versatile artistic profile. Passionate about music since childhood, Diana Bucur started with the violin at the insistence of her parents, especially her mother, later transitioning to singing after eight years of study. Her path in opera, initially unexpected – opera did not appeal to her at first –, took shape through hard work (90% effort, as she quoted George Enescu) and luck, with the change of repertoire coming at the advice of conductor Marcello Mottadelli. Her personal life offers her balance, and on stage she becomes a total character, putting a part of herself into every performance; she also plays the accordion in shows such as "The Proposal" (Cerere în căsătorie) at the Tătărași Athenaeum. A perfectionist, she sees a profound purpose in opera, transforming her own emotions into bridges to the audience.
