About
Lilia Bicec was born in 1965 in the village of Viișoara, Glodeni, in the Republic of Moldova, into a family marked by history: her father and mother were formerly deported to Siberia by the Soviet authorities. She graduated from the Faculty of Journalism and Communication Sciences at the State University of Moldova in Chișinău, a generation that included many well-known journalists in the country. She began her career as a journalist at various Moldovan publications, including the magazine "Lunca Prutului" and local radio, actively contributing to the development of the Moldovan media environment during the transition period after independence. In 2000, in the context of an unprecedented exodus of women from the Republic of Moldova, Lilia Bicec made the decision to move to Italy to secure a better life and a future for her children. Initially settling as a caregiver and domestic helper (badante), she managed to adapt and progressively integrate into Italian society. In 2013, she became a correspondent for the publication "Giornale di Brescia", and in 2010 she founded the bimonthly magazine "Moldbrixia News", a bilingual (Italian and Romanian) platform dedicated to supporting and assisting women from Eastern Europe seeking a new life in Italy. Her journalistic and literary work in Italy reflects her deep commitment to creating cultural bridges between Moldova and Italy. Lilia Bicec has become an important voice of female migration, exploring in her writings and projects the drama of family separation, resilience, and the hope of migrants. Her literary and journalistic work continues to document and amplify the stories of those who, like her, left everything behind to build a better future, transforming personal experience into a testament for an entire generation of women.
