Between 1944 and 1948, she headed the music department of the State Philharmonic of Moldova, and worked at the Chisinau Conservatory as an accompanist in Iosif Dailis's class. From 1953 to 1981, she was a soloist for the Moldavian Republic Committee for Radio Broadcasting and Television (she hosted her own segment "At the Piano with Gita Strakhilevici"). She performed solo programs of classical music (P. I. Tchaikovsky, Mozart, Ravel, Chopin), and performed works by contemporary Moldavian composers (Zlata Tkaci, Gheorghe Gheorghiță, Vasile Zagorski, Pavel Rivilis, Arkady Luxemburg, David Fedov, Max Fishman, and others). She also performed as an accompanist for artists of the State Opera and Ballet Theater of Moldova (Maria Bieșu, Boris Raisov, and others) and participated in the recording of numerous classical music radio programs. The "Melodiya" record label in Moscow released four gramophone records with works by classical and contemporary Moldavian composers, performed by Gita Strakhilevici. She composed music for several performances of the "Licurici" Puppet Theater in Chisinau. She was awarded the Medal "Meritul Civic" (Civic Merit) (1995) and the Order of the Republic (1996) of the Republic of Moldova.
