About
Silvia Zaharia, originally from Nisporeni, Moldova, became a prominent figure in volunteering and charitable work after emigrating to Italy in 1999. After an initial career as a nurse in her home country, she dedicated herself to exceptional social work in Italy, where she worked in various sectors and actively participated in humanitarian projects. Recognized for her perseverance and determination, she was named "Volunteer of the Year" by UNICEF in 2014 for her remarkable contribution to promoting the rights of children in the Republic of Moldova. Silvia Zaharia's charitable work has focused on helping children with physical disabilities and patients with serious illnesses. After learning about the case of Ștefan Roșca, a teenager from Moldova who lost his legs in a tragic accident, she initiated a collaboration that enabled the free prosthetics for over 37 Moldovan children in Italy, through the "Bimbingamba" Association. In 2014, she founded the Public Association "ABC – agreements, charity, cooperation," through which she coordinated medical assistance for approximately 21 women diagnosed with cancer, facilitated organ transplants, and worked with international organizations and Moldovan consulates. She collaborated with prestigious Italian hospitals and humanitarian organizations, maintaining relationships of transparency and credibility with donors and social institutions. Silvia Zaharia's personal life has been marked by migration and sacrifice for the good of her family and community. Having left Moldova with the aim of ensuring a better future for her children, she managed to reunite her family in Italy after considerable effort. Although she built a stable life abroad, she did not forget her roots and maintained a deep connection with her homeland, later returning to Moldova to continue her humanitarian activities. Her motto "Do good and forget!" reflects a life philosophy focused on selflessness and dedication. her compassion for the vulnerable, and her story has inspired numerous people in the Moldovan diaspora to get involved in charitable actions.
