About
Galina Sakhnovskaya is a lyric soprano from the Republic of Moldova, known for her interpretive versatility and distinctive timbre. She studied at the University of Pennsylvania, where she earned a Bachelor of Music, and at the Peabody Conservatory of Music, where she completed a Master of Music in vocal performance. Her repertoire includes lieder, chamber music, oratorio, and opera, performed in multiple languages. She has been praised on stages in the United States and numerous European countries for her stylistic elegance and musical sensitivity. Throughout her career, Galina Sakhnovskaya has performed significant roles in the lyric repertoire, such as Suor Angelica, Donna Anna, Fiordiligi, Mimì, Violetta, Tatiana, and Pamina. She has appeared in landmark concerts and oratorios, from Handel, Bach, Haydn, and Brahms to Villa-Lobos. She has received several awards and scholarships, including the Washington International Competition, the Center for Contemporary Opera Competition, the Giulio Gari Foundation International Vocal Competition, the New York Vocal Artists Competition, as well as scholarships from the Peabody Conservatory and the University of Pennsylvania. In parallel with her stage career, she taught voice for over ten years at Cabrini College, Settlement Music School, and the Leopold Mozart Academy. Together with her husband, pianist Mikhail Yanovitsky, she founded the Elite Music Academy in the Philadelphia area, an institution dedicated to musical education for students of all ages and levels, where she offers lessons, ensembles, music theory, and masterclasses. The two have performed concerts and recitals together in the USA, Moldova, Russia, and several European countries, and their joint activity has constantly combined the concert stage with a pedagogical mission. Publicly available information shows that Sakhnovskaya was born in Moldova and built most of her professional career in the United States, where she became both a performer and a trainer of new generations of musicians.
