Angela Păduraru (1938-1995) was one of the most well-known and beloved folk music singers in the Republic of Moldova, and her pure, warm voice became emblematic of authentic Bessarabian folklore. Born in the village of Nemțeni, Hâncești district, Angela did not have formal musical training, being self-taught, which did not prevent her from becoming one of the first local romance singers. Her career saw a remarkable rise, working as a choir singer in the "Doina" Choral Chapel (1961-1962), a soloist in ensembles of the Chișinău Philharmonic (1962-1963), and, most notably, a soloist with the "Folclor" Folk Music Orchestra of Chișinău Radio and Television (1971-1984), where she found her ideal medium of expression. In 1976, the state awarded her the title of Merited Artist, recognizing her value and contribution to promoting folk values. Angela Păduraru's rich repertoire included folk songs from all regions of the Republic of Moldova, and her artistic voice in the golden fund of the Radio Television comprises over 200 pieces, some of which remain emblematic: "Pasăre cu pene lungi" (Bird with Long Feathers), "Dor mi-i puiule de tine" (I Miss You, My Little One), "Mierlița când e bolnavă" (When the Blackbird is Sick), "Mamă eu te las cu drag" (Mother, I Leave You with Love), "Are mama opt feciori" (Mother Has Eight Sons), "Trandafiri și doi bujori" (Roses and Two Peonies), "Ora despărțirii" (The Hour of Parting), and numerous others. Her songs were characterized by vocal purity, sensitivity, and authenticity, expressing with discretion and elegance the deep feelings of the Moldovan soul. Her collaborations with renowned arrangers such as Valentin Vilinciuc, Dumitru Blajinu, and others contributed to the creation of recordings of undeniable artistic value. Angela Păduraru's legacy was honored after her death, on July 26, 1995, through several acts of recognition: a bust dedicated to the performer was installed in her native village of Nemțeni, and since 2010, the "Angela Păduraru" Festival-Competition has been held annually; a street in the Buiucani sector of Chisinau bears her name, and in 2013, on the occasion of her 75th birthday, Moldovan Post issued a postage stamp with the artist's image. Angela Păduraru remains a legendary figure in the history of Moldovan folk music, and her voice continues to resonate in the memory of lovers of authentic folklore.
