Viorica Meșină-Prodan, born on March 16, 1967, in the city of Rezina, is a remarkable film director from the Republic of Moldova, a graduate of the Faculty of Journalism at the State University of Chișinău in 1990. Although she began her career as a reporter for the weekly newspaper "Sfatul Țării," her calling quickly turned towards cinema, debuting in 1992 with the artistic short film "The Butcher's Children," based on a novella by Franz Kafka, produced at the "Flux-Film" studio. This film won an important award at the Locarno Festival, Switzerland, marking her affirmation as the country's first female fiction director. Subsequently, in close collaboration with her husband, director Sergiu Prodan, she made the feature film "Procust's Bed" (2001), screened at international festivals such as Berlin, Montreal, Karlovy Vary, and Cairo, where it received critical acclaim. Since 2002, Viorica Meșină-Prodan has been leading the Film and TV Production House "Sergiu Prodan Workshop," where she produces commercials, music videos, and documentaries, collaborating with international organizations such as UNICEF, the World Bank, USAID, and NGOs like "La Strada." She is a member of the Union of Filmmakers of the Republic of Moldova and the Supervisory Board of the "Teleradio-Moldova" Company. A highlight of her career is the drama "Culorile" (2013), a story about love, domestic violence, and emotional subjugation, filmed over a year to capture all seasons, featuring young actors like Irina Vaccarciuc and Guz. The film was supported by "La Strada" and the Government of Denmark, addressing profound social themes and receiving strong emotional reactions from the audience. Viorica Meșină-Prodan's personal life is closely linked to her career, through her partnership with Sergiu Prodan, with whom she founded the production studio and worked closely on most projects.
