Nika Mavrody was born in Moldova and grew up in Chicago, in a Jewish and Russian family, after emigrating to the United States of America. She graduated in 2011 from The New School University in New York with a bachelor's degree in creative writing, marking the beginning of a versatile career in film, theater, and literature. The cinematic field has been central to her work, where she wrote, directed, and produced short films such as Francky L'Official (2011) and Style Head to Toe (2013), alongside contributions to video projects like Pastoral (2009) and The First Contact (2010), exploring experimental forms of narrative. Her achievements in cinema are intertwined with notable theatrical experiences, including productions of her plays at Steppenwolf Theater in Chicago, Citizens Theater in Glasgow, and Around the Coyote Arts Festival, where she led the project The Dorian Project and directed the play Whenever Did That Root Canal. She was a semifinalist at the Young Playwrights Festival and won a Golden Award at the National Scholastic Art & Writing Awards in 2008. In the United States, she collaborated as a student assistant at the John F. Kennedy Institute for North American Studies at Freie Universität Berlin and as an associate editor at The Fashion Spot, integrating multimedia elements into creations such as the podcast Alphabet Play (2025) and the experimental literary work Replicate This (2025).
