About
Natalia Maticiuc is an internationally renowned Moldovan researcher in the field of thin-film photovoltaics, working in Germany at Helmholtz-Zentrum Berlin (HZB), one of Europe's leading research centers for materials and energy. She has built her career at the PVcomB competence center, where she is involved in the development and technology transfer for thin-film photovoltaics, participating in relevant projects such as VIPERLAB (H2020) and SPEEDCIGS, dedicated to optimizing CIGSe-based solar cells and CPV. In addition to her research activities, Natalia Maticiuc plays a key role in coordinating European photovoltaic research infrastructure, serving as vice-chair and awards manager within the RenewPV COST Action initiative, which aims to strengthen inorganic chalcogenide-based photovoltaic technologies with low environmental impact. In collaboration with partners across Europe, she contributes to establishing a systematic research, development, and testing ecosystem for next-generation solar cells, including CIGSe–perovskite tandem structures and advanced metal oxide thin films. Natalia Maticiuc received her professional training in the Republic of Moldova, as a laboratory assistant at the State University of Moldova, where she performed measurements and analyses for Cd/CdTe solar cells, after which she pursued university courses in physics and chemistry of materials. Subsequently, she continued her academic development at Tallinn University of Technology in Estonia, where she obtained her doctorate in natural and exact sciences, specializing in chemical technologies for thin films and next-generation photovoltaics. In Germany, through her involvement in international teams and cutting-edge projects, Natalia Maticiuc has become an example of promoting women in physical-chemical sciences and of the professional success of young Moldovans in frontier research.
