About

Sima Levin was born in 1957 in Chisinau, Moldova, into the Fiterman family. At the age of 17, in 1974, she emigrated to Israel where she continued her artistic training. She graduated from the WIZO Haifa Academy of Design and Education in 1979, having previously studied at the Rapin College of Design and Painting. Throughout her career, she took advanced painting and drawing courses at the University of Haifa under the guidance of English artist Glen Soho and studied under the masters Eli Shamir and Dorit Ringert. Sima Levin is a multidisciplinary artist working with painting, drawing, printmaking, and figurative sculpture, creating scenes based on often repressed memory. Her work explores the relationship between reality and imagination, between the visible and the hidden. She taught graphic design for 30 years at ORT schools in Haifa and Yokneam, and in the 1980s and 1990s, she illustrated children's books for Keter Publishing House. She became a member of the Israel Ceramic Artists Association in 2015 and the Israel Painters and Sculptors Association in 2012. Her works combine the aesthetics of classical realism of masters such as Rembrandt and Dürer with a post-impressionist and expressionist spirit, exploring themes of flora and fauna, as well as the complexity of the human soul. His career as a visual artist includes numerous solo and group exhibitions in the most important museums and art spaces in Israel, including at the Habima National Theatre in Tel Aviv, at the Israel Museum, and in various galleries in Haifa, Nazareth, and Ein Hod. He participated in important projects such as the series of canvases on white porcelain at the Wilfrid Israel Museum and in group exhibitions dedicated to paper art and contemporary sculpture. Sima Levin is also known for her involvement in volunteer activities for the community through the national organization Tarbut, promoting social resistance through culture and art.
