About

Emilia Kopatchinskaja, born in Moldova, graduated from the music school in Chisinau and the State Conservatory, where she obtained a soloist diploma in classical violin. As a soloist specializing in the performance of Romanian and Moldovan folk music, she has performed with various ensembles and orchestras worldwide, notably collaborating with her husband, Viktor Kopatchinsky, a cymbalom virtuoso. In 2010, she recorded the album "Rapsodia" with her husband and their daughter, Patricia Kopatchinskaja, for the Naïve Classique record label. This project explores the roots of George Enescu's music through authentic Moldovan and Romanian folklore, and it was awarded "Editor's Choice" by Gramophone, recommended by The Strad, and distinguished with the "Supersonic Award" by Pizzicato. Together with her family, Emilia presented the "Rapsodia" program on prestigious European stages such as Dresdner Festspiele, Beethoven Fest Bonn, Menuhin Festival Gstaad, Concertgebouw Amsterdam, and Festspielhaus Baden-Baden. Coming from a family of musicians in the state folklore ensemble of Moldova, where Patricia Kopatchinskaja's parents were active, Emilia contributed to preserving Moldovan musical traditions in emigration. Although her activity has expanded internationally, her debut in the United States took place with The Saint Paul Chamber Orchestra, marking an important stage in her career. In 1989, Emilia emigrated with her family from Moldova to Austria, escaping post-Soviet economic and political difficulties, and later settled in Switzerland. She raised her daughter, Patricia, a renowned Moldovan-Austrian-Swiss violinist, who started playing the violin at age 6 and became one of the most innovative artists of her generation. The Kopatchinskaja family recorded and performed together, promoting Moldovan musical heritage globally, with Emilia as a pillar of artistic continuity.
