Eugenia Curîșina (born May 6, 1932, Noua Caragaci village, Ismail County, Kingdom of Romania – died February 19, 2019, Ciumai village, Taraclia district, Republic of Moldova) was a leading figure in agriculture in the Moldavian SSR, particularly known for her exceptional work in viticulture. Youth and Early Years After finishing primary school, she had to work as a day laborer to support her family. In 1946, the family moved to Ciumai village (Vulcănești district), where, starting in 1947, she became a viticulturist at the "Ciumai" state farm. Professional Activity Her career was marked by a rapid rise due to her organizational skills and sustained hard work: 1949: She was appointed head of a youth team (Komsomol members). From the very first season, her team recorded record harvests of 175 centners of grapes per hectare. 1954–1987: She held the position of brigadier of viticulture brigade No. 3 within the "Ciumai" state farm-factory (Vulcănești district, later Taraclia district). Under her leadership, the brigade – which numbered 50 people in the 1970s – became a model of efficiency through strict adherence to agricultural technologies. During the period 1958–1965, the brigade achieved an average annual yield of 74.6 centners per hectare, consistently exceeding the averages for the agricultural unit. Distinctions and Recognition For outstanding results in grape production and harvesting, by Decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR of April 30, 1966, Eugenia Curîșina was awarded the title of Hero of Socialist Labor, and was presented with the Order of Lenin and the gold medal "Hammer and Sickle". Socio-Political Activity Eugenia Curîșina was an active figure in the public life of the Moldavian SSR: Member of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Moldova (1961–1976). Deputy to the Supreme Soviet of the Moldavian SSR (4th and 5th convocations). Member of the bureau of the Taraclia district party committee. Delegate to the 13th Congress of the CPSU (1966). Post-Retirement Life After retiring in 1987, she received the title of pensioner of all-Union importance (from 1989). She continued to live in the village of Ciumai, Taraclia district, until her passing on February 19, 2019.
