Dina Cocea was born on November 12, 1944, in the commune of Voloca pe Derelui in the Chernivtsi region, into a family with artistic traditions – her father, Ion Cocea, was a lăutar (traditional Romanian musician) and instilled in her a passion for art, teaching her to play the mandolin, violin, and accordion from childhood. She graduated from the Acting Faculty of the "Gavriil Muzicescu" Institute of Arts in Chișinău in 1964 and built a remarkable career of almost 70 years in theater, cinema, and television, playing over 100 roles. From her second year of university, she was recruited into the troupe of the "Vasile Alecsandri" Theater in Bălți, transferring after graduation to the State Moldavian Musical-Dramatic Theater "A. Pușkin," which later became the "Mihai Eminescu" National Theater in Chișinău. Her theatrical activity was distinguished by remarkable performances in classical and contemporary plays, including Nina in "Masquerade" by M. Lermontov, Juliet in "Romeo and Juliet" by W. Shakespeare, Beatrice in "Much Ado About Nothing," and Paulina in "The Birds of Our Youth" by Ion Druță. Throughout her film career, she starred in several films by the "Moldova-Film" studio and dubbed lines for films, contributing significantly to the development of the audiovisual industry in the Republic of Moldova[1]. Her efforts and talent were officially recognized in 1976, when she was awarded the title of Honored Artist of the Moldavian SSR and decorated with the "Mihai Eminescu" medal. Lucian Cocea, her brother (1940-2019), was the principal conductor of the Youth Ensemble of the Chisinau Philharmonic and the assistant conductor of the "Fluieraș" Folk Music Orchestra, demonstrating that artistic talent was a characteristic of the Cocea family. Dina Cocea remained a prominent figure on the Moldavian stage, being a member of the Chisinau National Theater troupe and continuing to be recognized as one of the most refined artistic personalities of the Republic of Moldova.
