About
Galina Chira is a remarkable English teacher from the Republic of Moldova, born on April 25, 1960, in the village of Visoca, Soroca district. She graduated from the Faculty of Foreign Languages of the "Aleco Russo" State Pedagogical University in Bălți in 1981 and has dedicated her career to education, becoming a coordinating methodologist and head of the Foreign Languages Department at the "Prometeu-Prim" High School in Chișinău, where she works alongside her husband, also an English teacher. Among her main achievements are the development of the first original English textbooks in the Republic of Moldova, together with colleagues and the "Arc" Publishing House, and the coordination of the first national English curriculum, as well as a curriculum guide, all of which are periodically revised. Her collaborations with American institutions marked her professional trajectory, starting with her role as a manager-instructor for the first cohorts of the US Peace Corps in Moldova for ten years. At 47, she won a scholarship from the Edmund S. Muskie Program, earning a Master's degree in Education and School Counseling in Alabama, USA, where she successfully applied William Glasser's "Choice Theory" to reduce school dropout rates. She holds the title of "Best Graduate of US Programs from the Republic of Moldova" and is a member of American honor societies such as Phi Kappa Phi and Kappa Delta Pi; recently, she has been working as a school counselor at Suncoast High School in Florida, coordinating IB and IIT/IB students in grades 11-12. Galina Chira's personal life is closely linked to education and the USA, where her two daughters, Inga and Diana, continued their higher education. Inga graduated from three faculties simultaneously (International Business, Finance, and Marketing) in Florida and California, and is now preparing for a PhD in finance, while Diana excels in chemistry, teaching at an elite school in Florida. Her family represents an example of ambition and cultural interconnectedness, with Galina promoting educational volunteering, projects such as a website for teacher development, and the desire to establish a "William Glasser" institute in Moldova.
