About
Sasha was born in Chisinau, Moldova, and moved to Northeast Ohio with her family in 1991. She graduated from Solon High School in 1999. She graduated from Denison University with a double major in International Studies and Religion; and completed part of her studies in Australia. Sasha earned a Master of Public Administration, with a focus on economic development and local food systems, from Cleveland State University's Levin College of Urban Affairs, ranked second in the nation. She gained additional experience working as a research assistant to the college's dean and studying economic development for a semester in South Korea. Sasha's professional and volunteer work between 2003 and 2015 included managing, coordinating, and leading non-profit organizations, services, and programs. She has always worked to improve social and environmental conditions: implementing environmental justice changes in Licking County, improving urban education in Cleveland, funding comprehensive development programs for the poorest people in Peru, and opening Chicago, Illinois's first food cooperative, among other projects. In 2016, together with her husband and children, Sasha established Purplebrown Farmstead in Cuyahoga Valley National Park, developing and managing a 5-hectare certified organic diversified farm that includes heritage pork, outdoor mushrooms, perennial vegetables, and a diversified fruit orchard. In 2021, Sasha opened the Purplebrown Farm Store in Peninsula, Ohio, offering organic foods from over 60 producers within a 96-kilometer radius, including her own farm's products. Sasha has always been passionate about building a thriving community and enjoying healthy food.
