Olga Bolșova, born on June 16, 1968, in Chișinău, is an exceptional former athlete from the Republic of Moldova, specializing in high jump and triple jump. Her impressive career includes participation in four consecutive Olympic Games (1992 in Barcelona, 1996 in Atlanta, 2000 in Sydney, and 2004 in Athens), as well as multiple World and European Championships. Among her top achievements are the bronze medal in high jump at the 1996 European Indoor Championships in Stockholm, with 1.94 m, 4th place in triple jump at the 2001 World Indoor Championships, and consistent top 8 finishes in major competitions, including finals at Balkan and national championships where she won titles. Olga Bolșova's national records remain unmatched to this day: 1.97 m in high jump, set on September 5, 1993, in Rieti (Italy), and 14.24 m in triple jump, achieved on June 28, 2003, in Alcalá de Henares (Spain). She competed under the flag of the Republic of Moldova after independence, representing the country at major international events organized by World Athletics, and significantly contributed to the development of Moldovan athletics through her consistent performances over more than a decade of elite competitions. Coming from a family of iconic Soviet athletes – the daughter of athletes Viktor Bolșov and Valentina Bolșova – Olga perpetuated the sporting tradition through her marriage to Moldovan athlete Vadim Zadoinov. Their daughter, Aliona Bolsova Zadoinov, is a professional tennis player recognized on the WTA circuit, demonstrating the family's sporting legacy. Retired from competitions, Olga Bolșova remains a symbol of perseverance and female talent in Moldovan sports.
