Paulina Zavtoni is a theater and film actress, university lecturer, and pedagogue from the Republic of Moldova, born on October 26, 1941, in Chișinău. A graduate of the "Gavriil Musicescu" State Conservatory in Chișinău, specializing in Theater and Cinema Acting, she made her artistic debut in 1960, joining the "Luceafărul" Republican Theater for Children and Youth, where she played over 100 roles in theater productions and on television. Among her most acclaimed stage roles are Lizetta in "The Game of Love and Chance" by Marivaux, Nina in "And Under That Sky..." by Aureliu Busuioc, Natalia in "Three Sisters" by Chekhov, Zoe in "A Lost Letter" by Caragiale, the Nurse in "Romeo and Juliet" by Shakespeare, Mrs. Alving in "Ghosts" by Ibsen, Madame Pernelle in "Tartuffe" by Moliere, the Nurse in "Romeo and Juliet" by Shakespeare, as well as multiple roles in plays by Romanian and Moldovan playwrights. Her stage triumphs earned her the title of Merited Artist in 1982, and in 2008, she was elevated to the rank of People's Artist of the Republic of Moldova. In parallel with her stage work, Paulina Zavtoni began her teaching career in 1972, becoming an associate professor at the Academy of Music, Theatre, and Fine Arts, where she teaches the course of Speech Art and trains generations of actors. She also actively collaborated with National Radio and Television, participating in radio and television broadcasting projects, and in cinema, she acted in films such as "Omul merge după soare," "Jana," "Lupii şi Zeii," "Reîntoarcerea titanicului," and "Călcâiul lui Ahile" at "Moldova-film" and the "M. Gorki" studio in Moscow. An active member of the Theatre Union of the Republic of Moldova, she participated in multiple national and international theatre festivals, including the "Satu Mare" Festival in Romania, festivals in Buhuși and Odessa, the international festival "Belaya Veja" in Brest, and the "Eurocade" Forum in Trabzon, Turkey, where her stage work was awarded directing and acting prizes. Born in difficult wartime conditions, Paulina Zavtoni grew up in a poor family and overcame poverty and the absence of her father, who fell on the front in 1941, during her childhood. This experience shaped her artistic sensitivity and made theater her permanent refuge from the "prose of life." In her personal life, she was married to the late actor and master of arts Spiru Haret, with whom she formed a prominent couple on the Moldovan stage, and alongside him, she gave birth to two daughters, Lucia Galac, university professor and head of the Department of Artistic Management and Culturology, and Constantin Haret, People's Artist and current director of the "A. P. Chekhov" Theater in Chisinau, thus perpetuating the theatrical tradition of the Republic of Moldova within the family.
