About

Irina Verbițchi was born on March 3, 1983, in Chișinău, Republic of Moldova, where she spent her childhood dreaming of an acting career, although local opportunities were limited. After graduating from school, she studied applied mathematics and computer science at university, working briefly as a software tester, but her passion for the stage prevailed. She gave up her first career to pursue her dream, frequenting film sets in Chișinău, including that of the film "Zayats nad bezdnoi" by Tigran Keosayan, where she met Igor Zolotovițki. She began studies at the MHAT school-studio but interrupted them after a year and a half, transferring to the Boris Shchukin Theatre Institute in Moscow, which she graduated from in 2011 in V.P. Poglasov's class, with diploma performances such as "The Adolescent" after Dostoevsky and "Tango" by Mrożek. After graduation, Irina debuted on stage at the Moscow Gogol Drama Theatre, playing memorable roles such as Helen in Martin McDonagh's "The Cripple of Inishmaan," Raechka in "The Foreign Child," and Julia in "Ladybugs Return to Earth." Her film career began in 2012 with supporting roles in Russian series and films like "The Case of Investigator Nikitin," "Women on the Edge," and "Homeland," but her breakthrough came in 2016 with the leading role of Gena in Giyom Protsenko's mystical drama "Wake Me Up," where she impressed alongside Kirill Pirogov and Konstantin Lavronenko. Subsequent achievements include the role of Irina in the melodrama "Love for Survival" (2017), Marina in "Hero on Command" (2019), and prosecutor Irina Prokofieva in the series "Undercover" (2020), accumulating over 20 appearances in Russian films and series by 2022, including "The Frozen Ones" and "I'm Watching You." Today, she lives in Moscow, represented by the Lena Khvan agency, and is fluent in languages such as Romanian, German, Spanish, English, and French, being versatile in dance, sports, and singing. Although Irina's personal life remains private, she is not married and has no children, focusing on her career within the Russian film industry, where Moldovan actresses like her bring a touch of authentic Eastern European flair. The period 2011-2013 was marked by challenges, including the suspension of the Gogol Theater's activities and her mother's battle with cancer, which led her to stay in Moscow instead of accepting invitations to other theaters, such as the one led by Lev Dodin in St. Petersburg. With a height of 175 cm, a slender figure, and diverse skills – from classical and contemporary dance to aikido and ice skating – Irina Verbițchi represents an example of perseverance for women from the Republic of Moldova who are conquering the Russian stage through talent and dedication.
