Natalia Valeeva, born on November 15 or 16, 1969, in the village of Tîrnauca in the Transnistria region, Republic of Moldova, is one of the most remarkable archers in the history of archery. She initially represented the Soviet Union and the Unified Team at the 1992 Barcelona Olympic Games, where she won two bronze medals – one in the individual event and one with the team alongside Liudmila Arzhannikova and Khatouna Kvrivichvili. Her impressive career includes six consecutive Olympic participations (1992-2012), being the first archer to achieve this record, along with other appearances at Atlanta 1996 for Moldova, Sydney 2000, Athens 2004, Beijing 2008, and London 2012 for Italy. Her achievements extend beyond the Olympics, with outdoor individual world championship titles in 1995 and 2007 – being the only non-Korean to achieve this after 1989 – plus five-time indoor world champion (1991, 1995, 1999, 2001, 2012), European champion in 2002, and multiple medals in World Cups, European Championships, and World Team Championships. Ranked world number 1 numerous times, including in 2008, Valeeva collaborated with national federations in Moldova and Italy, as well as with sponsors like Hoyt Archery and Easton Technical Products. She brought prestige to Moldovan archery, being recognized by World Archery as one of the best athletes of her era. In her personal life, Natalia Valeeva married Italian archer Roberto Cocchi in 1996, obtaining Italian citizenship and subsequently representing Italy, her husband's country. The couple has twins, and she balanced a sports career spanning over two decades with her role as a mother. Coming from a rural area of Moldova, her story inspires female athletes in the republic, highlighting perseverance in the face of post-Soviet geopolitical changes.
