About
Liliya Skubish was born in Chisinau, Moldova, and at the age of two, her family moved to Russia, where she grew up in a small village near Mendeleevsk. She graduated from the art school in her hometown, then studied academic art at the Pedagogical Institute in Naberezhnie Chelny. A year before graduating, she moved to Brooklyn, New York, where she attended classes at New York City College of Technology (CUNY), specializing in graphic design and animation, under the influence of Professor Anthony Accardo, who guided her towards illustration. The discovery of the Golden Age of Illustration from the early 20th century profoundly marked her artistic style, characterized by delicate pen and watercolor lines, with an emphasis on the nude human body and dramatic contrasts. Her works include commissions for paintings inspired by fairy tales, and a recent landmark project is the illustration of Mikhail Bulgakov's novel "The Master and Margarita," exhibited at Tradestone Gallery in Baltimore. She considers herself self-taught, perfecting her technique through regular sessions at Spring Studio in Soho, New York, studying art from the Early Renaissance to the present day. Operating in Brooklyn, Liliya collaborates with artistic platforms such as RAWartists and Behance, selling her original creations on Etsy, including illustrations from "The Master and Margarita" like "Flight in the Moonlight" or "Under the Willows." Her style, influenced by fantastic and diabolical themes, emphasizes the magical nudity of Margarita, conveying a mysterious atmosphere through dark tones and subtle lighting. Although detailed information about her personal life is missing from public sources, her career in the USA positions her as a remarkable artist of Moldovan origin, contributing to the promotion of contemporary illustration.
